How to back up MBP to hard drive if not formatted to OS Journal Script?!?!

So I'm trying to back up my MBP on to an external hard drive. The thing is i formatted the hard drive so it works on both Mac and PC, but you need OS Journal Scripted in order to run time machine. So to work around that i tried copying my .dmg file of my whole hard drive from disk utility. But when i did it my cpu usage went through the roof, so i stopped the process. Any ideas on how to back it up, using NTFS formatted hard drive?User uploaded file
