How to connect an AirPort TimeCapsule wirelessly to an existing Wifi Network?

Hello,

I recently bought an Airport Time Capsule 3TB.

I would like to connect it wirelessly to my existing Wifi Network generated by our Router. (Fritzbox 7390)

When i try the add to an existing network option in Airport Utility and fill in all the details it doesn't work.

Anyone to help please?

By recent does that mean an AC model??

Just so you know this is a really really bad way to set up a TC.. you turn off the ethernet.. no ethernet will work.. you turn off the wireless to any action except client.. and you make the wireless double hop.. ie super slow.. Poor and bad all around.

Apple hid the option to do this in v5 utility and did not even include it directly in v6. So there is your problem..

If you have AC model you have not use v6 utility.. unless you have a pc .. apparently the pc version still has some hope of connecting.. you also might find the iOS version utility works ok.

You need a computer connected to the Frtizyboy wireless.. and reset the TC to factory... it will show up then in wifi of mountain lion as a new device.. you can select it and use airport utility to connect to the existing wireless.. apparently the utility works about one in 10 times.. so if you don't succeed at first try again.. or even better. plug the TC in by ethernet.

Thanks LaPastenague for your quick answer.

First yes it is an AC Model.

What I would like to do is to have the router act as base station and to connect the tc via wifi with it, because i would like to have the tc in another room. Is that impossible?

Do I have to connect an Airport extreme connected to the rooter via lan and than connect the tc via wifi to the airport extreme?

If you want slow backups you can have the TC in another room connected by wireless.

But you need to realise you cannot connect to the TC in any way directly.. so even though it is sitting in room Y instead of room X it is now as useless as can be.. ethernet is off.. wireless does nothing but connect it to the main router..

So say I sit next to the TC. all communication to the TC goes.. computer---wifi---main router--wifi--TC.

You plug in an ethernet it is dead.. so the TC is not achieving anything in being in room Y.. you would do much better having it in room X plugged directly into the router. It will be 2x or better faster.. ethernet will still work.. 5ghz wireless will still work.. overall huge improvement.. Otherwise having spent all that money for AC .. you have rendered it useless.. AC will no longer transmit at all.

If it is necessary to have the TC in room Y with router in room X then solutions are in order best to worse.

1. Use ethernet.

2. Use EOP (homeplug) adapters. These do not always work but when they do can work well. If the store you buy from has return policy buy and try.. return if it fails.

3. Using the Extreme plugged into the router and wireless extend that to the TC is hugely better than joining the Fritzyboy wireless. This method leaves the TC working as AP still and switch.

4. Join wireless network. As posted above the absolute worst option.
