Why can't I add my playlist to my ipod classic?

I have read and reread the instructions for how to do this and it WILL NOT work for me. When I click on the IPOD radio button on the top right of my screen, it doesn't open up a window on the side of the screen. It opens full screen for me and shows me all the songs on my IPOD. If I click on the Playlist button and pull up my running playlist, then the add to button, there is no where for me to add it. I have been trying to figure this out for the last 3 1/2 hours or so and I know I'm not that dumb. Can anyone help me?

iPod classic, Windows 7
