I received an email from iCloud [noreply@insideicloud.icloud.com] with the message that's quoted below. Is this a phishing email? It goes against what I remember about the storage upgrade being free

When you don't regularly update your Apple ID information, Apple will require you to sign in by following the link in a verification email and update your information.
This is to help protect your identity and keep your account secure.

You guys still should be open to this being NOT legit. I just go an email from the same address talking about my Imac 27" facetime was used. Here is what the email said...

Your Apple ID (?????????@gmail.com) was used to sign in to FaceTime on an iMac 27".

Now the first question i have is, why would apple be concered if I used facetime on my imac?

Secondly, never seen apple use blue colored button layouts like it has on the site. I am a graphic designer and I know apple just doesnt design like this. If they do, Fire the creative designer.

The message quoted by the OP is legitimate and is because ex-MobileMe members were given complimentary extra storage which expires on 30th September. They can continue to use this by paying for it. Full details here:

To pay continue the storage, expand the section of 'How do I purchase my current plan' applicable to your operating system. (The purchasing process takes place in System Preferences or Settings>iCloud so it's not a question of a fake site being linked to.)


The message you quote, about alleged sign-in attempts, is another matter - a lot of people have received this and it's not clear whether it's phishing (though it's difficult to see what the purpose would be), sent out in error by Apple, or actually resulting from illicit log-in attempts. In any event anyone wishing to change their password should go directly to http://appleid.apple.com and not use links in any email.


The link in your quote, by the way, is legitimate and the blue button you mention is as on the site when you go directly to it - they've highlighted it by greying-out the surround, which is why it has a white border.


My guess is that the email is legitimate but possibly the server has gone slightly bonkers and is sending it out where it's not necessary.

I, too, received en e-mail from noreply@insideicloud.icloud.com in spanish (I live in Spain) after I updated my ipad to IOS 7, advising me to desactivate my iphone search and to then set it up again. IO did so and had to update the iphone search in the app store. I tried to do it but suddenly all the text in Appstore was in kyrillic letters, russian that is.

I wonder if the e-mail was a scam, wether I should be concerned about my Apple account and also how to get my Appstore app back to normal.


Any comments?

I received these emails today:

1) You've entered ___@email.com as the contact email address for your Apple ID. To complete the process, we just need to verify that this email address belongs to you. Simply click the link below and sign in using your Apple ID and password.

2) Your Apple ID was used to sign in to FaceTime and iMessage on an iPhone 4 named “___'s iPhone”.

3) Your Apple ID was used to sign in to iCloud on an iPhone 4.


I do not have an iPhone and I don't use iCloud. In fact, the email address that I received the emails from is not even the one I use as my Apple ID account. I got worried, so I logged on and secured the email address. Now, it's telling me that my iPhone has been activated. Again, I don't have an iPhone. All of these emails are from so called "legit" apple addresses: appleid@id.apple.com and noreply@insideicloud.icloud.com. I don't know what to do now.
