Q: Anybody else who signed up for @me feel like they are getting shafted by Apple?

I signed up for .me and now Apple are downgrading me to 5gb (when 20gb wasn't enough in the first place) then asking me to pay for an upgrade.

I remember when Apple was a brand that would upgrade you newer and better for a fee rather than screwing over loyal customer just because they could!

iOS 6.0.2

Every .me or .mac customer got 20 free GB's of extra storage when iCloud first started a year ago.

To keep the extra storage space you must now pay for it.

Free for a year. Now pay (if you even need or use the extra space).

Sure understood that but when I signed up for MobileMe (which was a disaster) there was no mention of a "year free", storage was included. Now with icloud (which is still glitchy as) I'm being down graded. Rubbish!

MobileMe was an annual (paid) contract between the member and Apple. That service ended with the introduction of iCloud.

Basic iCloud (5 GB's of storage) is a free service. Extra storage costs you money.

Previous MobileMe customers got 20 GB's free for a year. That year is now up.

Sorry, this is way off-brand for Apple, using a drug dealers strategy of getting to use a "free" sample first then changing for it later once you're hooked. I'd have thought apple might have offered an upgrade first. Deffiantly left a bad taste in my mouth....again.

You signed up, and PAID FOR MobileMe at $100 per year.

MobileMe has not existed for TWO YEARS, it was replaced by iCloud.

iCloud is free. You are $100 a year better off using iCloud than you were using MobileMe. On top of the $100 saving, Apple also gave you a FREE 20Gb storage upgrade for over a year. That complementary storage upgrade is coming to an end.

You can either revert back to the FREE 5GB storage, or pay to continue getting 20GB. Even if you pay for the 20GB it is still costing you LESS than MobileMe was.

You want everything for free? Another typical member of the 'entitled generation'.

All cloud services give a limited amount of storage for free and allow you to pay to upgrade it if you want more.

Apple always made it clear that 5GB is free, and the extra 20GB was complimentary for former MobileMe customers as an additional bonus for moving to iCloud. Apple weren't obliged to give you anything. Stop whinging.

You had a MobileMe account. You stopped having to pay for it somewhere between June 2011 and June 2012 and it continued for free until June 2012 when it terminated.

You migrated to the new iCloud service. This service is free at 5GB with extra storage available at a payment. You were given some extra storage free because you were an ex-MobileMe user, this free storage to run until September 2013. All other users of iCloud had to pay if they want extra storage.

Your free storage will expire in two months. If you do nothing it will disappear, or you can pay to keep it. You have had it for free for a year, and the documentation madde it quite clear that it was for a limited time. No-one is cheating you. Perhaps you would have been happier if you had never had the free storage in the first place.
