Oct 10, 2013 5:22 PM in response to ksatterwhiteby HappyGunnyCrap,Hi, my ssd failed last night when I was trying to click on a video(md231) , it's just frozen and never came back, I had to force restart and here we go---- a blinking question mark! That was a peaceful gone...
Just out of warranty 2 months.
After seen so many ssd failures on mid-2012 MBA, I seriously doubt the quality of Toshiba ssds installed inside of them! Is it a trick for broken at almost the same time around one year, just out of warranty?
I don't have apple store around, I'm not in the US now, and I got important files for exams! What can I do!!!?

Oct 10, 2013 5:27 PM in response to ksatterwhiteby phlipsidez,Just got my computer back from Apple today. Now on my 3rd SSD. It's been replaced about every 6 months since I bought it a year ago. Very disappointing... this is my first Mac. Just glad I bought the Apple Care or I'd be extremely ****** right now.

Oct 10, 2013 5:37 PM in response to phlipsidezby HappyGunnyCrap,What the... Three?
Oh it's been "naughty" of me for not purchasing an apple care!
But what about the ssd?
Are you using md231 with Toshiba ssd?

Oct 10, 2013 10:09 PM in response to ksatterwhiteby Gamb79,My SSD failed now for the second time on my MBA mid 2012. First time 3 months after original purchase May 2012 and now it failed again just outside of warranty.
I am in NL and Apple told me that there was no free reperation or one time extended warranty. Since it is a bussiness laptop there is no "consumer law" that extends the warranty to the EU two years. Now working on my 4 year old MacBook Pro that is still going strong. It is to bad that the issue (here at least) is not recognized by Apple..

Oct 10, 2013 10:52 PM in response to Gamb79by HappyGunnyCrap,Sorry for your Mac, did you update the system these days? I think mine failed after the recent update while I reboot and used for 1 hour.
I'm very disappointed for the answers from apple service tech guy call, too.
They don't recognize this as "a little common problem".

Oct 11, 2013 1:33 AM in response to HappyGunnyCrapby quangdx-asobitech,@HappyGunnyCrap,
as a work around you can boot your MacBook from an external drive,
check my video explaining what I did while I had to wait for the part to be in stock.

Oct 11, 2013 4:59 AM in response to ksatterwhiteby nutthwut,My 2012 MBA's SSD just failed today, out of warranty just 2 months. Found many users have ploblem with their SSD of 2012 MBA, any responsibility from Apple??

Oct 11, 2013 5:03 AM in response to ksatterwhiteby PLazarou,Adding myself to the list - 2012 11" 128GB MacBook Air just failed. Bought in July 2012. Apple UK are suggesting the only way I can get it repaired for free is if I make a 'UK Consumer Law claim'.

Oct 11, 2013 5:04 AM in response to Gamb79by LowLuster,You have to ask them to check with Apple. Most all of these SSD failure are being covered by Apple as it is a wide spread problem. Ask the Apple store to check there system for an extension to the warranty covering this problem.

Oct 11, 2013 5:08 AM in response to LowLusterby PLazarou,That's not what they're telling me (Apple UK). I pointed out various threads discussing the issue and the guy told me that nothing was flagged on their systems as being a widespread problem.

Oct 11, 2013 5:10 AM in response to PLazarouby LowLuster,Then tell them to Check Again. This is a Wide Spread problem that seems will affect all mid 2012 MBA models that have a Toshiba SSD.
I would contact Apple directly by calling the Applecare phone number for the UK.

Oct 11, 2013 7:04 AM in response to LowLusterby uskrums,That's not true. Just took my MBA in to US apple store. Showed them this discussion, they searched the system. There is no know. Issue. People must call AppleCare and tell them the problem and ask them to elevate so Apple can investigate. Without that, the company will not acknowledge the problem. Make the call. Save your receipts.

Oct 11, 2013 7:13 AM in response to LowLusterby uskrums,And I did contact AppleCare. Neither AppleCare nor Apple Store found Ny replacement coverage for this issue. $290 to fix. 90 day warranty. Not happy. But everyone who has this problem must call or go online to AppleCare and report the issue...today
