My Macbook charger, used only at home, and well looked after had frayed near the base and has now snapped off. Apparently this is not covered under warranty, why is this, if it is apples malfunction for the charger and not mine? This has happened to several people i know, and i am not willing to pay $90 for a new one as the malfunction was apples fault and not mine.

Whether your product is in or out of warranty, you can take your adapter to an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Retail Store for evaluation and replacement if necessary. Pending the results of the evaluation, you may or may not be eligible for a replacement adapter free of charge. Signs of accidental damage would negate any coverage. Be sure to bring in the computer used with the adapter; it is required to process potential adapter replacements.

I just bought a product called Python Cords that prevents Mac Chargers from breaking. I just wish I would have found out three chargers ago.. Good luck!
You can get a new third party 60W power adapter on eBay for under $20.
