    Welcome to Apple Support Communities

As far as I know, with "My Passport" you are referring to one of the Western Digital external drives. Is this correct? In that case, you are backing up to the external drive, not iCloud, because you can't back up a Mac on iCloud.

You don't need more iCloud storage if you are plenty of free space in it. Open System Preferences > iCloud, and check how much free storage you have. In general, if you are only using iCloud on a Mac, you don't need more iCloud storage, so you can keep the 5 GB storage

They are not the same. iCloud storage is for your iDevice data. It's not for general storage uses. See what your current use is to determine if you may need more iCloud storage.

Not really. It can also be used in Macs to store files created with an iCloud-compatible app, always that you are using OS X Mountain Lion. As the OP isn't using Mountain Lion, you are right
