Midi notes hanging with Logic X

Hi all. I am new to this, so please be gentle :-)

I have an AMT8 Midi interface (from Emagic). I have a keyboard that is connected to the interface, and subsequently into my iMac.

Since installing the new Logic X, the midi notes are getting stuck (hanging). This is when I am using a software instrument within Logic.

I find that I have to turn off the midi interface (or hit the panic button) to stop the hanging notes. Sometimes there is no sound until I again restart the interface.

I also have Logic 9, and I have never had this problem, all works fine.

Does anybody have any experience of this, or any advice?

Cheers,

CCan you make sure you have the latest version of the AMT8 driver installed? you might want to use an App named MiIDI Monitor to check where the hanging notes come from.

Hi guys,

I made sure that I was using the correct driver, but the problem just gets worse.

I have to carry on hitting the panic button, and even then it doesnt work.

Pro X seems to be giving me so much headache! The arpeggiator is also really buggy :-( But thats for another post!

Any Joy mccello?

No MIDI plugins before the instruments and no specific MIDI interface, just my m-audio keystation 88 keyboard via USB.

It mostly happenes during playback, in my case a string section, notes are hanging until I hit the space bar (stop).

After some more play-stop-play- procedures the notes behave as they should.

But as I said before, this slows down my workflow.

Never had this issue in Logic 9 or any other version or DAW.

I am having this same issue. When I load any virtual instruments and play a few notes a single note will eventually get stuck; stuck meaning infinitely sustaining. I can only stop the note by switching patches. I am using the latest update of Logic X (10.0.2) with an Axiom Pro 61 Midi Keyboard. This happens without any Midi plugins loaded or any other effects.

Does that particular keyboard come with software to install?

I am not sure. I don't think the Axiom Pro has a driver for Logic X yet. It seemed to be working fine before I updated the firmware on the Axiom Pro and supposedly M-Audio has a Logic X driver in the works, but I don't know.

Any chance of going back to the old firmware, if not I would try the firmware update again in case any data was corrupted.

That said... some older MIDI interfaces/controllers do not seem to work correctly sice Mountain Lion, Apple changed something in their MIDI implementstion.

Is it one of the cheaper MIDI Interfaces that comes as a cable with a small splitter in the middle/red/green lights? If so, Apple changed something at one point, possibly with Lion or ML's USB implementation so that these don't work correctly anymore. I had one for a spare and it worked perfectly with Leopard and still works with Snow leopard. It also works on PC's with any OS.

Just as a bit of additional info on this..

Apple changed the USB 'libraries' in Lion and Mountain Lion to handle USB3 as well as USB2. In doing so they broke some of the not 'completely official' ways some developers implemented USB2 which then requires a firmware update for the USB2 device, a change to the physical hardware itself or a driver update for that device to correct the issue.

Not all midi interfaces (and other non midi USB2 devices for that matter) are affected by this because many Devs correctly implemented USB2 handling in the first place rather than take a few 'short cuts' along the way which is why this issue only affects a small number of devices.

The 'cheap' midi USB interface Pancenter described, is one of those USB devices that cannot be fixed because of the way it was initially designed and implemented... and doesn't have the capability to be upgraded via firmware nor use drivers.... to resolve the issue
