Haven't changed anything. Today my accounts are offline. Attempt to sign in again with Apple ID, and received the message that the server is not responding and to try later. Well, my partner has no problem with it so it can't be the server. Tried restarting. Any idea what I can do about this? It's never happened before.

Ok, so even though nothing had changed and I'd used the same details to acces this forum, I chose to reset my AID password with the same password. Then when I logged into messages, and entered the same password as before, everything worked again. Go figure!

This also solved my question. Thank you.
But there is still my question why this suddenly happens to Apple with iMessage...?
Because on another Mac my account just worked well, before I had to "reactivate" iMessage on my iMac resetting the password.
Thank you, Simon, I tried this solution, but it didn't help. The funny thing is that iMessage still works on all my other devices (than my MacPro 2008) when I use it on them - in the same WLAN network.
And - this problem is new after a vacation from mid-July to August 1st.
