MacBook Pro Screen Resolution Change

Hi this question just poped into my mind the other day, i am wondering is it possible to replace the stock standard 1400x900 resolution display with a replacement or after market higher resolution display like the 1680x1050 screen Apple offers when purchasing online. So for clarity i am wondering if i can change my current MacBook Pro LED screen with a higher resolution one.

Specs. Early 2011 15inch MacBook Pro. Thunderbolt enabled (clarity of model)

Cheers to anyone the can answer my query.

You'd have to replace the GPU as well. And then make sure the interior components aren't going to overheat with the difference. By the time you are done, you probably are better selling the less powerful machine and buying a newer more poewrful one. The only down side is unless the spec was available before 10.8's release that you want, you'll probably be stuck with 10.8 compatibility which is not the same as 10.7's.

You decide :-)
