Learn about iCloud: Complimentary storage upgrades for former MobileMe members expired on September 30, 2013

Q: I don't understand. This says complimentary but I paid my annual fee. Does this mean it will now cost more or what? Is iCloud not the same organization as Mac, mobile me or any different names its called itself these past years that I've paid. I

I don't even like iCloud, it has done nothing but loose files that were supposedly backed up to it. It is confusing and frustrating to be a part of something that changes so many times in such a short period and tells you to do things which you do only to loose stuff because you an expert or something. I miss Mac and even mobile me. At least with them my info was where it was supposed to be. Still, things change so what is the difference in my annual fee and how I pay it?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2), sound adjustments

If you upgraded from MobileMe, Apple offered you a free year with 25 GB of storage on iCloud. Now, that year is about to expire, so now you will have to pay for 25 GB of storage as any other user with that amount of storage.

25 GB of storage cost $40/year. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12796?viewlocale=en_US You can downgrade the iCloud storage to the free 5 GB, pay for 25 GB or use another cloud service.

If you really want to store data, I recommend you to use an external drive or a storage service like Dropbox or SkyDrive

First off, no, iCloud is not just the same as dot-Mac or mobileme.

A basic iCloud account includes 5GB of storage, for both email, documents and iOS device backups.  If you want or need more than 5GB, you will have to pay for extra storage.

The artcile that you link from, HT5527 makes it pretty clear it seems to me.  IF you had more than 5GB of material stored in your mobileme account, then you must either reduce how much you have in online storage, or purchase additional iCloud space.

But the basic iCloud account, with its inclusive 5GB of storage is free to everyone.  It is only if you wish or need additional storage that you would pay anything.

Note that iCloud has nothing comparible to iDisk general online disk space, mobileme's PhotoGallery, nor does it offer any form of web hosting (i.e. nothing akin to iWeb publishing).  Those features are gone.
