You don't. At least not with the built in messages app.

IF all recipients are iphone users and have imessage, then there is no way to do that.  That is how imessage works.

You can try turning off imessage and then send the group text and see if that works.

Works that way with a non-iMessage group text too. Not one of Apple's better designs, they would be better off to use a 3rd party group message app.

    Hey Aaronrlewis,

The feature you are looking for exists by using SMS. This can be done by toggling off iMessage and by toggling off "Group Messaging". Both of these settings are found in Settings > Messages.

When iMessage and Group Messaging are off, you will be able to send a multiple recipeint text using SMS. This will cause all replies to your SMS to come only to you, as SMS does not support the features used with Group Messaging.

This will also cause MMS to work as well with multiple recipeints, without using the Group Messaging features, so that way you can send multimedia to multiple recipeints. Only you will receive the replies when iMessage and Group Messaging are disabled.

If you send a text to a group, it will automatically open a group chat, and everyone will be able to see each other's response. You can turn off iMessage like Cody said, or, if you want to keep iMessage, you can download Hit Em Up. It's an app that lets you send personalized mass texts - so you can send the same text to multiple people (with a template so you can address them by their name) without it opening up a group chat in imessage. This way nobody knows that there were other recipients of the same text. It's free for the first week and it only charges a small subscription fee per month.
