Wired mouse not working

Any time I try connecting a wired mouse, that is specifically made for mac, my 2012 MacBook Pro recognizes the mouse, but it refuses to use it. Does anyone have any suggestions, I think it's a problem in the settings.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.

Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.

Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.

Test while in safe mode. Same problem?

After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Boot into Recovery mode. From the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. While in Recovery, you'll have no access to your saved bookmarks or passwords, so make a note of those before you begin, if they're needed for the test.

Test. After testing, reboot as usual and post the results.

What mouse is specifically made for Mac OS X? I have never seen any that specifically state "Made for Mac OS X" except the Apple Magic mouse. A Mouse is a Mouse, especially one that is wired and connects by USB port.

I have used many different mice on my Mac computers. From Microsoft brand to Logitech and even some cheaper style Off Brand mice without any problems.

If this is an Optical mouse could be you need to use it on a certain type of surface.

Please post the brand and model number of the mouse you are using.

Send it back, it is defective. Go out and buy any name brand mouse and it will work. It does not have to say "Works with Mac". A Mouse is a Mouse. All the normal buttons will work, the right and left and the middle Wheel button along with the wheel. If it has other side button or other special features then you might need the manufacturers software for those to function correctly. But the regular buttons will work just fine. That is if the mouse isn't defective.

I bought it just because it works with Mac, I'm pretty sure it's generic ( or really low end), but it said the company was Frisby

I have a similar problem. My mouse left click button has very suddenly stopped working. I have troubleshot the problem by unplugging (several times), rebooting (several times), switching between all 3 USB ports and using a different mouse (wired). After some of the reboots/unplugs the left click will work for a little while, but then stops again. I just read your forum and tried rebooting in safe mode...and the mouse works just fine.

What is my next step in troubleshooting?

Thank you.
