Can Apple TV be used with older TV's with RCA or 75 ohm cable video input plugs? My TV does not have an HDMI type socket.

Apple TV, iOS 6.1.4

HDMI is the only supported method, there won't be any guarantee. You would also be unable to play content that requires HDCP (ie iTunes, Netflix)

Buy a new or newer tv first. You will be more satisfied with the results in the long run.
