I get a spinning wheel when opening Iphoto 11 latest version (9.2.3). Looked at the repair library option but doesn’t seem to do anything spinning wheel just continues. IPhoto was working fine up until a couple of days ago. Any ideas for next steps?

And what happened in that few days? What changed? Did you install other software? Update software? Run any maintainance programs like cleaner application? Imported new photos or videos?
Or is simply your harddrive running out of space? If you are having significantly less the 10GB free diskspace, free disk space asap - remove large files to an external drive.
To try to narrow down the problem by a few tests: create a new iPhoto library by holding down the ⌥-key when launching iPhoto. Select "Create new" form the panel. Do you also see the spinning wheel for a new, empty library?

Creted a new album, no spinning wheel. A number of software updates have been run in the last few weeks but the issue didn't occur until the last few days. We also experienced problems with sending emails so I though it might by the email account setup but doesn't appear to be the case.
Try the repair permissions, it seemed to do something but then retruned to spinning wheel. Then tried repair library after doing a backup. After selecting this option it just went straight back to the spinning wheel. Ran for ages with no messages, etc......
Use the rebuild library option next
