Hi unknonazn1989,

Welcome to the Support Communities!

The information below should help you understand how Ringtones work on your iPhone:

Using the iTunes Store for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Tones

You cannot purchase ringtones and alert tones from your computer, but you can purchase them using your iOS device with iOS 5 or later.

To locate tones in iTunes on an iOS device:

  1. Tap the iTunes app.
  2. Tap Tones. If Tones is not visible, tap More > Tones.
  3. Browse for tones. Once you purchase a tone, a dialog is displayed. The dialog gives you an option to set your new tone as your default tone or assign it to a Contact. If you don't want to do anything with the tone just yet, simply tap Done.
  4. On an iPod touch or iPhone, you can find tones in Settings > Sounds.

The iPhone User Guide explains how to assign ringtones to your contacts on page 49 and 139:

http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf

Ringtones, Ring/Silent switch, and vibrate - pg 49

Assign a different ringtone for a contact: In Contacts, choose a contact, tap edit, then tap Ringtone and choose a ringtone.

Sounds - pg 139

You can set iPhone to play a sound whenever you get a new message, email, call, Tweet, Facebook post, voicemail, or reminder. You can also set sounds for appointments, sending an email, pressing keys, and locking iPhone.

Change sound settings: Go to Settings > Sounds.

Set the ringtone. To set a ringtone for a person, go to their card in Contacts.

I hope this information helps ....

Have a great day!
