trash shows always empty

Hi together!

My trash always shows empty in the dock, regardless how much is inside.

When opening the trash folder, the mini icon shows correct, but the icon in the dock shows empty.

After empting the trash the icon shows empty, of course.

Inserting something in the trash doesn't show a full trash.

Have already cleared the trash via terminal and created a new one.

Have fixed all rights, hds and so on, no success.

Have logout and login, no success.

Has anyone an idea?

Any help of any kind is very appreciated. :-)

Thank you all very much in advance, with best wishes from Germany,

Roland

Rather than trashing your entire Dock Preferences, you could just do this, in Terminal:

defaults read com.apple.dock trash-full

If you have trash, it should read '1'. If it returns '0' and trash is not empty, then do

defaults write com.apple.dock trash-full -bool TRUE

It should now show as having trash. Empty the trash and ensure that the icon changes to empty.

Dear Carolyn,

that you very much for your help, I really appreciate that. :-)

Your suggestion did not solve my problem. Even a reset of the PRAM doesn't.

But meanwhile I found a solution, that worked:

From a backup I took:

Dock.app

and

Finder.app

from:

/System/Library/CoreServices/

changed the rights and replaced them with the original ones. Then a restart and everything was fine again. :-)

Thank you very much for your help.

All the best,

Roland
