Can't view old purchased iTunes album

During a long car ride from North Carolina to Ohio, my mother decided to play many of her songs off of her iPhone. Eventually I became bored of them and suggested playing an album that I had purchased off of her account a few years ago. She agreed and I began to search her iPhone but didn't manage to find the album there. I then searched through her iTunes Purchased section (she has access to 3G) and couldn't find it. In a final attempt, I searched up the album on iTunes and found it. The price was $9.99, although it was a previously purchased album, so it should just have an iCloud button next to it. I've been trying very hard to figure out how to get this album back. As a young teenager with no source of income, spending 10 dollars for an album is pretty expensive, especially since I know it's already been bought.

Is there any way for me to retrieve this album without purchasing it for a second time? I also have iTunes on a Windows 7 laptop if that helps. Thanks in advance to whoever decides to help me.

Hi jevans,

First, I'd like to say it is a pleasure to read a post from a young teenager that is articulate and well thought out. Most wonderful job!

As for your album issue, there are a couple of things we need to explore. I would suggest that you go back into the iTunes store and search for the artist or group whose Album you were expecting to find in your Mom's purchased items. Once you have the whole group of albums up for that artist/group, take a look at each one to see if any of them have the "Purchased" indicator instead of the price below them. I'm wondering if it is possible that it was a different album that you purchased and had it confused with the one you were looking at....

The other thing I would suggest is that you check your own iTunes account purchased records to make sure it wasn't something you purchased under your own ID instead of your Mom's.

Finally, you can log onto you Mom's iTunes account on a computer, then click on the ID, and click on "Account" to view the account information. Under Purchase History, click on "See All":

Once you get into the history, you can click on Jump to go to the last page if that's close to where you need to start looking:

See if you are able to find what you are looking for in the History, so you can make sure that it is what you were looking for on the road.

I've not heard of iTunes purchase history being lost, but there is always a first time....

Last resort, if you have no luck locating the album you were looking for, you can contact iTunes support. Select the options that best apply to your issue. You will get an opportunity to also provide a written description before you submit it. iTunes Support will get back to you via email, usually within 24 hours:

Post back if you have any other questions, or if you are successful in your quest! I wish you the best of luck in getting this resolved, and again, thank you for providing pleasurable reading....(no spelling errors - OMG, almost unheard of)! You made my night and restored my faith in the literacy of America!

Cheers,

Hi Gail,

I am new to this community, so I am not familiar navigating too well.'

Problem: My HP computer was infected with a virus and, unfortunately, I had to get it wiped clean. I returned to iTunes to install the latest version of iTunes. All was successful; however, when returning to my libraries EVERYTHING but a few purchased song were GONE. Could you guide me in restoring my libraries? I have tons of dollars in music and am sick about it.

Thanks.

Hi DOC-NJ,

If you are referring to purchases made using your iTunes account, then with very few exceptions (those things that may no longer be available, for example), you should be good to go:

Sign onto iTunes on your new computer with the iTunes ID you purchased your music with (if you purchased music with more than one Apple ID, just repeat these steps when you are done with the first one:

1. Make sure you Authorize the computer to your new ID. Under the Store option in the top menu, you will see an option to Authorize this Computer. Check that option. If you do not see the top menu, click CTL+B to display it permanently.

2. Now, go to the iTunes Music Store, click on "Purchased" under the QUICK LINKS section that show up on the right hand side of your Music window. Then click on Not on this Computer (or Not in this Library). You will see all of your past purchases with a little cloud next to them. You can click on "Download All" in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen to download off of the tunes to your new Library, or you can selectively download the ones you want.

If you have other media that is on one of your iOS devices (but which was not purchased via iTunes), then tt2's tutorial may be of help:

Best of luck, and post back if you have any questions!

Cheers,

Hi Gail from Maine1

First, that you for taking your time to guide me.

I followed your instructions but was unsuccessful in retrieving my libraries. However, while stepping through your instructions, I was able to "chat" with an Apple customer service tech who was super in helping me retrieve my libraries. With the help of a tech she was able to identify I had a previous account where most of my music was stored. Boom! She triggered my former email address and I provided the password and the problem was solved.

Secondly, I thank you for your help . I am glad I had contacted you for leading the way. I will keep you in my "follow" list and will defer to you for my Apple guidance.

Thanks, Gail.
