Why when cropping an image right down does the final image not fill the screen? Even though the image can zoom further.

Why when cropping an image right down does the final image not fill the screen? Even though the image can zoom further.

I want the final image to be full sized but when I crop the small section out of the original image it doesn't create a full sized image.

iPhoto '11, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

Look at the pixel size of the cropped out section. If it is very small - say 100x100 pixels, and much smaller than the pixel size of your display, iPhoto will not enlarge it to fill the screen, because it would look blurry.

If you want a full size image, export the cropped section at a high resolution and view it with Preview.

You will see a blurry mess:
