WiFi router security risk and firmware updates

CNET just posted an article on WiFi router security saying security research as found 56 new CVE's.

One major problem is that router manufacturers are not doing automatic firmware updates.

How does this affact Apple equipment such as Airport Express, Time Capsule etc.?

Unless you disable the feature, Apple does notify you of firmware updates for their AirPort routers.

You would find this feature in the AirPort Utility:

Run the AirPort Utility > From the AirPort Utility menu bar > AirPort Utility > Preferences > Check for updates automatically
