Q: Back-up and access to iPad after time with no Wifi contact

I've been travelling for the past 4 weeks, where Wifi contact has been sporadic or nonexistent. A message appeared on my iPad: "This iPad hasn't been backed up in 2 weeks ..."  and since the screen is locked. I am now home but still can't back-up or use the device. Any suggestions please?

    Thank you King Penguin. I've just read your answer to someone with the same question:

     

    "Have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot."

     

    It worked.
