Newly replaced hard drive, and now cannot connect my mac to hdmi port

I replaced my failing hard drive with a 3rd party hard drive because it had a better warranty than what I would've gotten through the apple store. I tried to hook up my laptop to my TV via HDMI port, and it won't recognize the screen like before. It shows the space background that was displayed when I replaced the hard drive instead of mirroring the screen with my current background, files etc.

Any help is appreciated!

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Hello melissamachete,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

For more information on this, take a look at:

How to use multiple displays with your Mac

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5019

Video mirroring

Mirroring displays the same image on each display.

  1. Make sure your additional display is properly connected and powered on.
  2. From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
  3. From the View menu, choose Displays.
  4. Click the Arrangement tab.
  5. Enable (check) "Mirror Displays" in the bottom-left corner.

Best of luck,

Mario
