Long OS X startup

My MacBook Pro is experiencing some long startup times. It used to boot up almost instantly. After installing a security update and removing the startup folder to address the Photoshop CS2 problem, it starts up about 3 times as slow. Compared to my friends Mini, my church's intel iMac, and my church's MBP, it is very slow. Has anyone else experienced this or know a way to help?

My MBP boot was fine when I first got it. After I installing the SMC firmware update it boots in 35 seconds. If you haven't installed that yet, try it. If you have, I'm afraid I'm out of advice.

Yes, the MBP’s performance took a bit of a hit following the SMC update although the consensus was that several owners here were complaining about the heat so Apple addressed it by adjusting the processor activity that slighty reduced operating temperature. (see right hand column) “1. The MacBook Pro continuously monitors system thermal and power conditions, and may adjust processor speed as needed to maintain optimal system operation” In any event, this where we’re at until engineering comes up with a better idea.
