Copying photos from Aperture to Portable DVD writer

My optical scanner on my computer is shot and i purchased a portable DVD writer to copy pictures from Aperture on my hard drive to a DVD disk for backup. I can't seem to get the computer to copy the album in aperture to the disk. What am i doing wrong?

Export from Aperture and then burn the exported photos to a DVD

Personally I don't see that as a real solution. The DVD will not hold very many photos.

I think an external hard drive is the much better solution. Then you can simply have Aperture create a Vaults for on the external drive.

An advantage to the vault is Aperture can update it with new photos.

DVD are a royal pain
