My MacBook Pro turns on, screen fine, cursor working. When I press on ANY icon, NOTHING happens. Restarted by using power button, but to no avail. Help please!!!

Thanks baby boomer but I can't even click on any of the items in the space above. ( the apple, finder, file, etc..) so I don't even know what OS I have. This is crazy
Sorry, I cannot offer any troubleshooting suggestions without knowing which OS is currently installed on the MBP. I do not want to cause any further damage. Different OS (versions) have different troubleshooting solutions.
Are you the admin? If not, ask the owner which OS is installed? As the owner, you should be "aware" of the OS that is installed.
