Q: Why do some still pic scans show film sprocket edges in final cut pro?  A resolution problem?

Some of my still picture scans show up with film sprockets on the left and right edges.  I have not found out what this means.  Anybody help me?

Final Cut Pro X, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
