Q: half way through update and shuts down?

My mac gets half way through an update and then shuts down, suggestions anyone?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.1)

Hi WSMW,

If you are having issues with an OS X update, you may want to take a look at the troubleshooting steps in the following article (it specifies 10.6 and earlier, but the steps should be similar for all OS updates):
