no output, no internal speaker macbook air

well, now the problem is that the volume button in the menu bar is greyed out! and this is wat is shown in the sound preferences:User uploaded file but i cant click on the mute button...

any suggestions?

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

i would try an SMC reset, the following article tells how to do this:

also after you do this reset and restart the mac. open the about this mac window and go into more info/system report and under the hardware section click on audio and see if the internal speakers show up in here, if they don't you need to take it in for repair.
