Any means to stop animated gifs in Safari?

Hello all!

Some online news magazines are exaggerating with all these animations. Sometimes it is hard to read the article. Any means to stop the animations in Safari? I could not find anything. (Firefox and Explorer yes!)

Best greetings to all

You could try this : https://github.com/matsadler/deanimator

The version 0.3.0 there leaves a partial version of the .gif, 0.1.0 seems to block them completely. Both are from 2010/11 so may not behave perfectly, but easy to disable or uninstall.

You might need to click "Apply to all images" in the preferences. It didn't work for me either until I did that. Also, some gifs play once then stop, but that's better than nothing.

Another solution I used to use was Glimmerblocker, which can selectively block web elements among other things (like scripts). Just select Action: Block requests, Hosts: All Hosts, Path: ends with .gif.

Then they all disappear! 😉
