Hi. I am new to apple computing and I find that my work in office publisher is not able to open on this Mac I have Pages but that is the only program I have on here.
Can any help me with a suggestion whit what program Apple has that is comparable with this window format?

Thanks Allan, Surly Apply makes a program that can open Office.
When I bought this computer I was told you could transfer the files from office, publisher is part of that program, is it not?
I do not want to put windows on this computer, I have an other one but would like to make this the main computer to do my work on.

It's not Office, it's Publisher. And there are no compatible programs for OSX and there are no file converters either. To make it worse Publisher can not export to any useable format other than its own proprietary one.
Use Publisher on Windows, or abandon the files.

The free offices packages such as OpenOffice, NeoOffice don't do it either

Publisher and Office are quite different as described here:

Apple does have programs that support Microsoft Office. Pages is one prime example. (Numbers and Keynote support other aspects of Office.)
Microsoft does make Office for the Mac. But none of these progreams support Publisher.
As I said if you need Publisher then you need Windows

This site claims to be able toconvert .pub files to other formats. I have never used it (last time I looked it did not exist) but it may be your only option. Give it a try, post back and let me know if, or how it works.
Libreoffice v4.1 will open all versions of MS Publisher since the dawn of time. It also is stated to open older AppleWorks, ClarisWorks, and MS Works (for Mac) documents too. It installs into /Applications and your local Library/Application Support folder.
I have a copy of Libre Office here, and I have a sample .pub file downloaded from MS. I can not open it using Libre Office, please point me to the method you used.
But ....
I just found (in the impress module) a listing for Publisher, unfortunately it fails when opening the sample file (looks like a text only import), I will look for another file to test with.

Downloaded Publisher Template, opened and re-saved in Libre Office Draw.

Good that you got it working.
It always was, my one and only .pub file must have been corrupt, that's why I downloaded another to test. It works very well and will be very useful to the Publisher refugees.
