Weird, my lappie is unable to display the serial number from "About this mac". I tried to recovery the OS but the issue still exists.

so it is or is not displaying the serial #. Sorry, I'm a little confused as to what your question is.
Sorry, I suppose put it in this way: it's failed to display the serial number, what I can see is 'serial#'.
You might want to try booting into recovery and seeing if you can see the serial there. Also, while in recovery repair disk permissions and see what happens.
Did you ever had the Mac under repair to an AASP? If the MB has been changed they must also recover the old S/N and place it into the new MB with a SW they only have. If they don't do that, it woun't display in Sys Profiler.

I even try the with new OS from external HDD, still unable to detect the serial number.
