I don't have iMessage, I don't want iMessage. I don't have an iPhone or an iPod touch. When setuping up my new MacBook Air I can't continue without selecting my email address from my iTunes account.
I esspecially don't like the wording of "Let others reach you at:" - I don't want others to reach me by searching for my email address in iMessage.
How do I complete the setup?

You can sign out of iMessage anytime.
Open Message > Preferences > Accounts > Select iMessage > Sign Out
You can then delete the iMessage account by selecting it & clicking the minus sign ( - ) on the bottom left
Set it up and then go to Messages/Preferences/Account and uncheck the 'Enable this account' check box. You can't delete the account or at least I can't - minus sign grayed out.
