I did something similar years ago, and had to buy a new keyboard. It sounds like some cleaning fluid got inside the keyboard. Apple recommends never using windex or any alcohol-based or cleaners with ammonia for any Apple products. Don't use anything wet to clean your keyboard, at most, just use a very slightly dampened cloth (dampened with water only).
You will likely have to buy a new keyboard (unless the windex dries up in a day or so, and the keyboard miraculously starts working again).
No it didn't get wet. I sprayed windex on a paper towel and whiped it off. I think I just somehow pushed keys in an order that changed how board works. I've looked at all the system preferences keyboard etc and nothing seems to work.
How do I create a new user? I only have the gray screen with the current users listed. Unfortunately all users have one of the letters that isn't working in their passwords so now I can get off my login page?
It is very unlikely that you pressed the keys in a strange order to make this issue occur. I am not aware of any string of keypresses that would cause your problem.
You probably got windex inside the keyboard, even though you sprayed a paper towel first then wiped the keys. I did the exact same thing a while ago and had to buy a new keyboard.
Invest in a keyboard cover.
What did you use to clean the keyboard? Did you get it wet while cleaning?
You can create a new user as a test user account and then log in to that user account. While logged in on the test user account test the keyboard and see how it works.
Well THAT *****!!! That's probably what happened. Darn OCD!!! I'll wait to see if it magically works tomorrow and then run along to the Apple Store to spend some $$! Thanks so much!
