Q: Wi-fi off and will not turn on - MacBook

I had exactly the same problem as Tricia and used Elise's suggestion which worked beautifully. Thanks Elise.

I have had this problem ever sence I upgraded to Lion. If I turned the comupter off and restated my Wifi would not turn on. A simple restart would fix the problem till yesterday. I restarted over and over with no luck. Found this post and the fix here got my Wifi back. I have yet to restart to see if it does it again.

Another friend suggested that if I'm tired of having to apply the workaround every time I power up, just put the MacBook in sleep mode and it might stay connected ... I did that and sure enough it worked.

My techie at the local Apple store (not a company store, an authorized seller) had several machines on his bench with the same ailment ... he already concluded it was a software problem and has been in touch with Apple about it ... Apple may have a fix pretty soon.

Mine Wifi quit and needed to do the tip here when I got the new Itunes update.

Follow the directions from AtlantaElise on the first past of this posting.  It worked for me

Same here, this worked for me. Smells like corrupted settings. I do hope that Apple fix it in 10.8.6

I'm having the same problem since the last update 10.8.5! I did what I asked her Elise and it worked, but whenever I restart or turn off my Macbook in 2008 he returns with this problem and I have to repeat the procedure ...

Well I'm happy that it's not a hardware issue. But Apple need to fix this ASAP.

I too was having this problem with one of our computers (late 2008 macbook pro) and was applying AtlantaElise's workaround. It seems like the recent OS update (OS X 10.8.5 12F45) may have fixed the problem. It has been stable through several resarts at least....

My late 2008 MacBook Pro has the same problem. It only started doing it recently. The fix AtlantaElise provided is great, but I found that a PRAM reset temporarily fixes the issue too. Since it's happening more often now, I'm thinking of just starting the computer from now on while holding down Command, Option, P, and R. What can it hurt?
