I like to downlaod books and music from the apple store, but I am also on home sharing and do want to share my purchased items. I wouldn't mind sharing my donwloaded stuff with my roomates but since they do not buy or download anything from the apple store I do not like giving my stuff away for free since I am not getting anything out of them doing that. So is there away to hide music specfically?

hmm...not that I know of at this time. I think it may be the decision of sharing all, or sharing none.

You know what, I can't believe I didn't think about this:
Have you thought about using iTunes Music sharing rather than home sharing? Yes, this will limit the content to music, but you will be able to choose which playlists are shared (and in turn, exclude items like you wish to)
