Macbook Air Speaker Static

Hello! I've had my Macbook Air for about a year and a half now and it has worked great. However, this morning I started hearing a huge amount of static in the speakers (more so the left one) whenever I turn the volume up more than half way. I've tried restarting the computer and so forth, but it won't go away. I know my computer is out of warranty, but if I take it to the apple store will they still fix it even if I have to pay? Also, if anyone else is having this problem, is there any way to fix it? Thanks!

it definitely sounds like a hardware problem. of course, the only way to know is to actually take it to a store and have them diagnos what exactly is going on. I personally would not be able to estimate a repair price for you, as I have never experienced it. But I'm sure they'll be glad to help.

My computer is brand new (less than two weeks) and I have the same problem. I hear little bursts of static. Not impressed.

I forgot how I made the static go away the first time that it happened.

The second time the on/off button on the keyboard made the screen go dark but the static did not go away. I probably used the on/off button to restart the computer. Then I used Apple>Shut Down... from the menu bar. The static went away.

Thank you everyone for the responses! I tried resetting the PRAM to no avail. I'm taking it to the apple store tomorrow to see what they can do. I'll post the results!
