Q: Spilt Water on MBP. What should I do?

I knocked my bottle of water on top of my mbp's keyboard about an hour ago. I immediately unplugged it and shut down. After the spill I shut it down and haven't powered it back on. There was a pool of water that formed on the upper part of the keyboard (where the vents are) before I turned it upside down and saw  water dripping out from inside. I'm worried that with that much water there is going to be irreversible damge. I was reading that even after a few months water damage can show up even if the computer operates normally.

My question is... Since I am covered under applecare can I take it to the applestore to have them crack it open and clean up the remaining water pools? Or should the water accumultion be gone within a few days if I don't turn it on and keep it turned upside down?

Thanks for the responses everyone. I cleaned up some more water trapped underneath the cooling fans by unscrewing them from the logic board. As far as I can tell everything looks dry but only time will tell if there is really any damage. As Plotinus mentioned there could be iron damage which is what worries me the most. I decided to leave it upside down in a tent position for a few days next to my ac vent and then power it up. If it gives me problems I'll take it into the apple store and then if all else fails then it might be time for a new computer.

This is pretty devasting since I'm just a student struggling to get by and I can't afford to drop 2+ grand on a new computer. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best.

If the worst should happen investigate what insurance cover is available, renters insurance, home owners (esp if you live at home) and last but not least, credit card purchase insurance.

    Good luck.

Thanks. I wasn't aware insurance covered accidents involving household electronics. Next time I make a major purchase I'll check into it. Unfortunately I don't have insurance right now so that's not an option for me.

If all is lost I could take out the hd and sell my mbp as is for parts and put the money towards a newer mbp or imac. I believe the mbps and imacs should be getting an update soon.

Some do, worth checking, and if you bought it with a credit card check with them, some include purchase insurance, some don't.

I had a watered down piece of toilet paper to wipe the screen on my waterproof watch and I didn't squeeze it properly so a few drips of water went into my caps lock key on my MacBook. (Regular, not Pro.) Should I be worried that this may cause later problems? It was only a drop or two on the left of my caps lock that got in. Thank you for your time.

There is no way to be sure, it may, so keep regular backups.
