My iPod shuffle, 2nd gen is not playing music. I can charge it, I have restored it and still nothing. I made the mistake of adding music to it using another computer, had to restore it after that. It worked for approx. a week and now nothing. Any sugg

My iPod Shuffle, 2nd gen is not playing music, it holds a charge so it is not the battery. The earbuds work on other devices. Any thoughts as to why it is not working?

thanks!

Yes, when I plug it into my computer it appears in iTunes. Yes, it appers to function normally with one exception;it does not appear to be turning on when I try to listen to music. I purchased new head phones-the ipod did not turn on and I could not hear music. Shuffle light does not come on when power switch is turned to the ON position with head phones. Light does come on when charging and when plugged into a USB port-power switch is turned OFF in these circumstances..

The 1st and 2nd gen shuffle can only have music from one iTunes library at a time. So each time it connects to a different iTunes library, its content is replaced.

What does "now nothing" mean? You seem to be able to charge it, and also Restore it, so when you connect it to the computer, it appears in iTunes, correct? That's a lot better than "nothing." 🙂

If it does not play music, but appears to function normally otherwise... Have you tried your headphones with something else, to confirm they are still working? When you move the power switch to the ON position, does the shuffle's light come on?

My guess, based on your info and the fact that the shuffle is an older model, is that the shuffle's battery is worn out and not holding a charge. When you plug it in, it functions because it is getting power from the USB connection and appears to charge. When you disconnect it, it goes dead because battery does not hold the charge.

Since you have already tried doing a Restore, the problem is hardware and not software. Unless you want to do the work yourself

the cost for replacing the battery probably exceeds the $50 for a new 4th gen shuffle.
