Table of contents always shows up as thumbnails

I'm at a loss to figure this out. I'm using the Classic Text template for my book and iBooks Author shows a proper table of contents. Yet when I preview the book on my iPad, the ToC is gone, replaced by scrollable thumbnails of every page in the book. Obviously, I'm doing something wrong. Any ideas?

Heyj KT,

I know that you're the IBA expect in this forum, and I could still really use your help. I wanted to see if there was something inherently wrong with the above-mentioned IBA doc, so I just created a new one using the same Classic Test (portrait) template. I added about three chapters (selecting Add Pages > Chapter > Chapter Text) and a few words of text in each chapter, exported the document as an .ibooks file, then sync'd it to my iPad. Even the new doc shows up without a ToC -- only scrollable thumbnails. This is driving me nuts.

Hi

I've got the same problem using the 'Biography' template in IBA. This is a portrait only template.

The TOC shows nothing at all, just blank pages with a ghosted title of each page that IBA will now allow me to edit in ToC and a central square which looks like a space for an image. Again I am unable to edit this space either!

Any ideas please?

I'm getting desperate.

The default TOC page in iBA shows an image placeholder on the right which covers 50% of the page. Drop an image if you choose. On teh left is blank space or your particular Chpater and section information. IF you decide to stetch an image to vover teh whole page... it may clash with teh text and it may puch the text back layer and appear lost, Use ARRANGE - Bring to Front.

On your Mac using iBooks Author, the TOC shows at the bootom a black footer with a slider and white dost as does the iPad. Each "dot" represents a Chapter and you will see - IF - you have added sections, a line which - example - shows for Chapter 10.. the Chapter and title you gave it, 2 sections would show as:

10.1 Test 1

10.2 Test 2

These become links in your book - but do not work on your mac/iBA - they do work on your iPad or iBooks on Mac.

You do not get pages listed... in iBooks, you see a line of page thumbs to select your choice of Chapter, Section Pag

Viewing a book using iBooks is visual. The printed book "Index" or TOC is not neccasary

I have been using the Biography Template and I am puzzled why the TOC does not simply list the Chapter names and the Chapter numbers. I spent 3 hours on the phone this week speaking to several of the app experts at Apple and no one seemed to be able to give me an answer. I can see in the ToC one page for each chapter with the sub headings when i click on the buttons below but there is no overall table showing what i would like to see so I can understand what it looks like when I come to print/publish. Does anyone know anyway to trick this program to show a simple ToC with Chapter headings and page numbers?
