Q: Itunes match stuck at sending information to apple

Anyone else having issues tonight? Once a week the iTunes match seems to auto run the info gathering and send to apple. Normally it works fine although can be a but slow to get a response from apple sometimes. Tonight it just won't go past 'sending information to apple'. Each time I start iTunes it gathers the info to try again. Anyone else getting similar? My library has not changed in weeks so it can't be anything like that. I guess server issues at apples end?

Cheers

I know this is an old thread, and I have seen issues with iTunes Match, as well.  What works for me is to turn OFF iTunes Match (in the Store menu) and then turn it back on.  Seems to work everytime.

What Krutsch says works for me too. But it's really frustrating to turn in off and on to use it. They could fix it, but I don't think this service is their priority.

It is frustrating.  When ripping CDs, you need to turn off iTunes Match; otherwise, you're are constantly racing against iTunes to update meta data before going into an endless round of "Update iTunes Match."  And, if you maintain two copies of your library, getting newly ripped tracks into the second libary is a chore to prevent the same tracks looking like iCloud duplicates.

I don't think anyone at Apple cares about real-world use cases for iTunes Match, unless all music is purchased from iTunes and the track tags are completely to your liking (i.e. you never edit the Apple-edited track tags).  Then it works just fine.

iTunes Match was working fine for for me until a month or so ago and now I have to turn it off and back on to add to it. I noticed it keeps trying to talk to one of two IP addresses 17.152.16.93 or 17.152.16.89 that immediately time out. Those are definitely iTunes-related servers so I'm wondering if that's why it gets stuck.

So from what I've read on this thread, and from what I just saw with my own computer. I think the match might ocasionally get stuck on a song -- could be DRM, network glitch, computer going to sleep during the transfer etc.

If that happens it looks like turning match off and then on can reset  the state (current behavior of match is to ask for reauthorization, after it did that it appeared to sync up with iCloud and just add the songs that I added to iTunes today. Which it was 'stuck,' it indicated that it had uploaded all but two songs before getting stuck. The behavior reminded me of aborting and restarting a database transaction, but who knows what's actually going on).

If  "Stuck" happens to be caused by those things, turning match off/on will likely help, but the "stuck" indicator you get from iTunes isn't informative enough to guarantee it..

I think you are correct in that assumption.  In my case, I have a number of high-res tracks (i.e. 96kHz or greater / 24-bit) and iTunes Match cannot "match" those tracks.  So, rather than skipping over them, it keeps retrying and it's why the process takes so long.

FWIW, I've abandoned iTunes Match - I was spending too much time looking at the barber pole and waiting on Apple or iTunes to finish.

It's too bad, because it makes managing multiple libraries easier; for example, with Match, I can change playlists on either library and the changes propogate to the other.

But the headaches associated with adding new music to my library, plus the endless attempts to match tracks that will never match was a show-stopper for me.

It seems possible. The disable/enable trick works but it used to work without that fine for me until a few months ago and it happens on every ISP. I'm going to see what I added around the time it broke and delete it to see if that helps.

I hate to be the one that says it, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Yeah if it's actually a bug I'm not gonna bother. Hope the patch comes soon.

Just turn off iTunes Match for a week and see if you like it.

For me, it's been like opening a window and breathing fresh air.  I had no idea how much time I was wasting, waiting on Match.  No more ghost iCloud tracks and no more waiting when ripping CDs and updating my second library copy on my Mac Mini is just synching folders and restarting the second copy of iTunes.

    Whew...

I have this high-res tracks too, no problem until last update of itunes. Now i have this stage 3 problem over a month with crashes every new start of match.

I decided to cancel subscription and turned it of. Maybe this is a thing that is understood by apple. So many threads with problems on itunes match and nothing is done.

Well, I think the problem is that folks with high-res tracks are a pretty small part of the user population and my belief is that iTunes Match simply wasn't designed to accommodate this user scenario.

I am going to keep watching the support forums to see if it gets better, but I am not holding my breath.  The iTunes Match life-cycle is just too long for someone that is frequently ripping/importing new CDs (even when it was working - never mind that it now hangs/crashes).

I *do* however miss the automatic playlist updating across libraries, but it's not worth the cost in time and aggrevation.

I guess it's improving a bit. Last couple of match runs have gone through a lot quicker. Under 5 minutes
