Q: How do I reset a used iphone4?

Just bought a used iphone 4 and after completely resetting it, a phone number/service has started showing up. (ex. safari works, texts are sending, calls can be made, etc.) it is not set up with my account yet, so i'm wondering as to why it's activated. how do i erase the number and service from it?

iPhone 4, iOS 4.2

    Hello Janet4089,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities

The service is activated by a carrier, so to stop or prevent cellular service until you are ready to set it up, you can remove the SIM card.

Keep the card until you are ready to work with your carrier to get the phone activated.

    Regards,

    Sterling

It sounds like you have the old iphone owner's sim card in your phone! You need to get a new sim card. This would stop service and start yours when you activate it.
