These directions are incorrect.

For new macbook pros (mid 2012 and beyond), there "use audio for" menu does not exist. Although it appears that the hardware is capable of accepting audio inpute through combination headphones with a mic, Apple apparently decided to eliminate this function. Very frustrating!
