Is it still possible to set up a hotmail account in Mail?

Is it still possible to set up a hotmail account in Mail?

I have a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.8.4 and Mail 6.5 installed.

I have done all the procedure but it does not work for my Hotmail.com nor for my Libero.it accounts.

I got it to work with my yahoo.com.au account.

I there a reason for that?

Thanks for any assistance.

Here are the settings for Hotmail.

  • Windows Live Hotmail POP server address: pop3.live.com
  • Windows Live Hotmail POP user name: Your full Windows Live Hotmail email address ("me@hotmail.com" or "me@live.com" for example)
  • Windows Live Hotmail POP password: Your Windows Live Hotmail password
  • Windows Live Hotmail POP port: 995
  • Windows Live Hotmail POP TLS/SSL required: yes

  • Windows Live Hotmail SMTP server address: smtp.live.com

Everything looks correct, so much so that I am curious as to whether it actually works. The symbol next to your Libero account signifies that it does not work, but the Hotmail account has no such symbol next to it.

So test it, go to the Window menu (in Mail) and open Connection Doctor, it will run at once, while it is running press the details button and run it again. Green lights mean the account works, I expect a Red for Libero and Greens for Yahoo and Hotmail,

I concur with Csound1 that the settings seem to be correct. This is a long shot but try checking the small box that says "Use only this server" underneath the Outgoing Server (SMTP) setting. When setting up your Hotmail account in Apple Mail, did you let the app provide the settings or chose them yourself? If you chose them yourself, you could try deleting the account and re-adding it.

Sorry Csound1 & bratma91 I have been out for a while.

So I have deleted both my hotmail and libero accounts from Apple MAIL.

I have restarted my Mac.

I have than recreated my hotmail account on Apple MAIL and the app provided the settings.

I have than checked the "use only this server" box for outgoing mail.

I still cannot get the mail showing on Apple MAIL (there are more than 6000 mails in my hotmail inbox).

If I run the connection doctor i get the green lights but still I cannot see the mails that are in my hotmail inbox showing on Apple Mail ...

These are all the screenshots:
