Every time I attempt to sync my iPod, iTunes crashes.

It attempts to back up my iPod and then as it finishes backing up, iTunes completely crashes. Can someone help me because I can't back up my iPod. I updated my iTunes, I erased everything on my iPod, nothing works. I'm getting really sick of this, can someone please help me?
