Q: Update 5.3 messed up ethernet on Apple TV2. Any way to downgrade to 5.2?

I have an Apple TV2 which was working fine on both ethernet and wifi, however after the 5.3 update, the ethernet connection no longer works.

Wifi works but the signal is not strong enough for streaming. When connected via ethernet cable, it gets an ip address and the right dns settings but cannot connect to the internet.

Is there any way to downgrade to 5.2? I've tried to downgrade it via Itunes, but I get the 3194 error.

This is what I've tried so far:

  • Reapplied the 5.3 update
  • Unsuccessfully tried to downgrade via Itunes
  • Checked that all the ports on the router are working
  • Checked that there are no firewall rules on the router
  • Changed the ethernet cable
  • Reset the router
  • Checked that all the ports used by Apple are open on the router.

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem, or does anyone know of a solution?

I just updated to 5.3 and I now have the same problem. Ethernet doesnt work, but wifi does.  Other Ethernet devices on the same port work fine. You are not alone with this problem.

Sorry to hear that you are having the same problem, gumbygo!

It is such a shame, I have been so happy with the Apple TV till now.

I've done so many resets and restores over the weekend, but no luck. I'm just about ready to go buy a Roku instead, so I can watch baseball again.
