Problem with midi recording from keyboard with sustain peddle attached

I have a sustain peddle hooked up directly into my Yamaha keyboard that works perfectly. However when i try to record anything while using the peddle in garageband it registers the compression as a note? I end up with sustained notes and a very loud note in the middle of my music whenever i press the peddle down.
