Ipod classic won't sync to my itunes on an external hard drive

so a couple days ago I bought some episodes of avatar the last air bender. Before that I had synced to my ipod just fine. I cut the sync short when I tried to put them on the ipod but when I came back it no longer syncs. The itunes opens up easily and plays music and t.v shows fine. My ipod shows up on windows but it does not open itunes automatically anymore any ideas on how to fix this problem.I updated to version 11 and my itunes is on an external hard drive now.
