how to change the function of power button

when i hit power button my mac goes to sleep but it wasnt like this before

how to change the function of power button macbook air

I'm not sure what you would like the function of the power button to be when the MacBook Air is awake ...

Anyway, you can turn sleep off by going to System Preferences (under the Apple logo in the Menu Bar) and selecting "Energy Saver". Check through the tabs there for the various boxes you have to uncheck to get sleep turned off.

I had the same predicament after updating to Mavericks. Just try to press longer on the power button for the options to pop up (the one we're used to).
