ipad missing software update button

I recently purchased a ipad 2, I am trying to update the ios and the software update button is not in the settings under general like it is on my iphone.

If it's running an iOS version prior to 5.0, it won't have that button and must be updated from iTunes on a computer. If possible, use the one it normally syncs with.

I tried to sync it and now its froze up
